Phil Spencer rules out Xbox Series X/S redesigns anytime soon

Xbox head Phil Spencer has told fans not to expect an Xbox Series X/S redesign anytime soon.

The two next generation consoles were released back in November 2020, and the Microsoft gaming chief has insisted there are currently no plans to expand the hardware line-up in the near future, with the current console models set to “be in the markets for years”.

During an interview on the latest episode of IGN’s Podcast Unlocked, he said: “There's nothing that's going to come out next year that's going to make you feel like, 'Oh, I should have waited'.

“These are the consoles that we [will] have in markets for years. And we built them with that in mind, and I love the tech that's in there and that capability, and that's where our focus is going.”

Spencer went on to reveal that the aim is not to create new hardware just for the sake of it but instead, when they eventually do, it’s because it “creates new opportunities”.

He added: “We don't have to go do hardware just to go do it. We want to do hardware because it actually creates new opportunities.

“And I've said before, it could be at the lower end that we find more immediate opportunities."
