The New York Jets recently made two significant transactions. Each of these moves will help on the offensive side of the football. The Jets agreed to a re-negotiated salary with slot receiver Jamison Crowder. The Jets then used the salary cap space they created to sign right tackle Morgan Moses. Over the next two weeks, another very important decision looms. Currently, Marcus Maye is set to play this season on the franchise tag. It will be interesting to see how general manager Joe Douglas handles this situation. Here, these impactful decisions along with another potential one will be discussed.
The Jets Must get a Deal Done with Marcus Maye?
True. There have been reports over the last few months saying the Jets would like to extend Maye. When healthy, Maye has been very good for the Jets over the last four seasons. He is coming off by far the best year of his career, one in which he won the Curtis Martin Team MVP. Maye is heading into his fifth year with the Jets. He is essentially a complete safety. His coverage ability is good. He makes plays on the football. Maye is a physical hitter. Hopefully, the Jets and Maye agree to a multi-year contract by the July 15 deadline. A comparable deal that is fair for both the Jets and Maye would be what the Cleveland Browns signed John Johnson to in free agency this March.
The Morgan Moses was a Good Signing?
True. Moses is still an effective right tackle. He played good football last season. George Fant also happened to play solid football last year for the Jets. Unfortunately for Fant, in this case, Moses is simply an upgrade. Surrounding Zach Wilson with all the best possible talent is crucial for him as a young player. Moses should be reliable in pass protection and help Wilson in his rookie year. Expect him to also get the job done in the running game. For 2021, Moses improves the Jets’ offensive line. He should have a good season.
Loading…##### La’Mical Perine Should be on the Roster Bubble?
False. As a rookie, Perine was not given enough opportunities. Perine was drafted in the fourth round just last year. He has talent as a runner and could be productive in the passing game. Perine is not the most explosive, but he does run hard. He provides a different type of skill set compared to the rest of the Jets running back group. Perine can bring power with his size as a runner inside and in short-yardage situations. On passing downs, there should be a chance for him as both a receiver and blocker to show if he can contribute. Hopefully, this summer he shows his ability. Perine needs more reps in 2021 with the Jets.
Bringing Back Jamison Crowder was the Right Move?
True. Crowder has been a reliable and productive Jet over the last two seasons. He enters 2021 as one of the better slot receivers in football. He is a reliable target which will be great for Wilson to have. This re-negotiation happens to work well for Crowder. It fully guarantees his salary and now he no longer has to worry about being released at any point before the regular season. This move also helped lead to the Moses signing. Expect Crowder to have a role and to continue his good contributions to the Jets.
