EA and Apex Legends have announced Year 2 for the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS), an esports league and circuit competition featuring $5 million in total prizing.

ALGS Year 2
Starting in September, the new competitive circuit for Apex Legends esports takes on a new form. Introducing a new competitive ecosystem, this year expands on the success from the past year with double the prize pool. The AGLS Pro League will hold 40 teams across five different regions this year. 20 of those spots get taken by invites while the other 20 are filled through Preseason Qualifiers. This keeps the traditional top esports teams while newer Apex Legends contenders can join too.
As for Apex Legends’ amateur esports scene, the ALGS Challenger Circuit will run parallel to Pro League. But this circuit highlights upcoming teams while keeping the path to pro visible. EA also added new accessibility options for players too. ALGS Year 2 now welcomes PlayStation and Xbox players to compete professionally as well. All together holding a massive $5 million prize pool, teams and players have a lot to fight for.
Apex Legends Global Series
After a successful Apex Legends Global Championship 2021 competition, EA is here to pump up the esports scene even further. This includes an average minute audience (AMA) of over 180K for just the North America Finals. This far exceeded the previous record held by the Winter Circuit competition.
“The ALGS has sustained momentum well into year two, most notably achieving a franchise-record cumulative AMA of over 180,000 during the recent North America Championship Finals,” EA stated. “Despite having to pivot to online gameplay, the success of the first season coupled with the continued support of EA and Respawn points to a bright future for the ALGS.”
Plans remain tentative because of COVID-19, but EA stated that they hope to bring three live events in ALGS Year 2. These events would be January 2022 Split 1 Playoffs, May 2022, Split 2 Playoffs, and the ALGS Championship in July 2022. Apex Legends esports looks stronger than ever with today’s momentous announcements and the community has much more to look forward to.
