Report: Reds Add Another Bullpen Piece in Mychal Givens

The Cincinnati Reds don’t care what hour of the day it is, they are here to make moves. After acquiring two relievers from the New York Yankees late last night in Luis Cessa and Justin Wilson, the Reds are back to work. Per Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, Cincinnati is close to a deal that would bring Mychal Givens from the Colorado Rockies to the Queen City.

)

Givens, 31, has been with the Rockies for the 2020 and 2021 seasons after coming over from Baltimore. In 31 games this season, the right-hander has a 2.73 ERA through 29.2 innings with 34 strikeouts and 14 walks. He has been dialing up his fastball to the upper 90s and his changeup is much improved.

The Reds now have a fairly formidable bullpen which includes: Givens, Cessa, Wilson, Tejay Antone, Sean Doolittle, and Amir Garrett. Look for Cincinnati to add a shortstop and maybe a rotation arm prior to the deadline.

In return for Givens, the Reds are sending minor-league pitchers Case Williams and Noah Davis back to the Rockies. Both ranked among Cincinnati’s top-30 prospects, per MLB Pipeline. Williams is a former Rockies drf pick.
