Report: Brewers Acquire Daniel Norris

The Detroit Tigers traded a longtime face of their bullpen on Friday afternoon as they sent Daniel Norris to the Milwaukee Brewers. In return, the Tigers will acquire minor league pitcher Reese Olson.

Norris, a Tiger since 2015, has struggled this year with a 5.89 ERA, though he has also induced 40 strikeouts through 36.2 innings pitched. That number is up from last year, when he struck out 28 batters. Norris, who is playing on a one-year, $3.475 million deal, will be a free agent this coming winter.

Olson is currently pitching in High-A. He has amassed a 4.30 ERA with 79 strikeouts through 69 innings pitched. Olson was not ranked among MLB Pipeline’s list of the top 30 prospects in Milwaukee’s system.

For the Brewers, they receive a bullpen piece in Norris who will look to take advantage of a new start. Meanwhile, the Tigers get a young prospect for Norris, who had struggled and seemed to be in his final year with Detroit.
