Report: Royals Trade Jorge Soler to Braves

As the trade deadline came and went on Friday, the Kansas City Royals traded power-hitting outfielder Jorge Soler to the Atlanta Braves for Kasey Kalich.

Soler, the 2019 American League home run champion, has struggled this season, slashing .192/.288/.370 with 13 home runs and 37 RBI. Over the last 10 days, Soler has swatted six home runs, including back-to-back multi-homer games. His recent production certainly boosted his trade value.

Soler signed a one-year, $8.05 million deal before the 2021 season and is a free agent following the 2021 season. He’s the second Royal to be traded, joining new Dodgers hurler Danny Duffy.

In return, the Royals receive right-handed pitcher Kasey Kalich. The 24-year-old was a fourth-round draft pick out of Texas A&M in 2019. Has a power fastball with an effective slider. This season at High-A, Kalich has a 3.26 ERA with 35 strikeouts over 30.1 innings pitched. Over his two-year professional career, Kalich has a 2.42 ERA with an opponent batting average of .225.

The Braves needed a power bat after the loss of Ronald Acuña Jr., and Soler fits the description. The question is: where does he fit in the outfield?
