It’s been known for a while now that General Motors will expand its Ultium Battery technology across its popular full-size truck nameplates. It’s starting with the resurrection of the Hummer, and soon we’ll be seeing a Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV (or something like it) in a few years. Similarly, expect certain features and technologies to be shared across these vehicles. Four-wheel steering, for example, is going to be one such thing.
First shown on the Hummer EV Edition 1, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV will offer Quadrasteer Four Wheel Steering, which will reduce its turning circle in low speed settings. In high speed settings, the rear wheels will turn the same direction as the front wheels, which will reduce body roll as it performs the everyday task of changing lanes. All in all, four-wheel steering on the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV promises improved handling and stability compared to more traditional setups.
2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV: Confirmed Details
Chevrolet this morning also confirmed 24-inch wheels for the Silverado EV, the largest wheel GM has ever confirmed on a truck. We’re not sure how that’s going to feel with thinner sidewalls and all of that battery pack being lugged around, but considering that General Motors has some of the best chassis tuners in the business, we doubt there will be much compromise.
Previous reports have claimed that the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV could begin sale in early 2023, as GM moves swiftly to answer the Ford F-150 Lightning, which is expected to begin production in springtime of 2022. The Chevrolet electric pickup truck is expected to have around 400 miles of range.
GM CEO Mary Barra has otherwise described the new Silverado EV as “stunning,” and the truck will be built alongside the GMC Hummer EV in America. All of GM’s BT1 platform vehicles are expected to be built at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly plant, which has been renamed to “Factory Zero“. The facility is undergoing a $2+ billion USD renovation.
