2022 FORD GT HERITAGE EDITION DEBUTS, THROWS IT ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE ORIGINAL

Another year, another Ford GT Heritage Edition. Since 2017, Ford Performance and Multimatic have put together various throwback packages for the carbon-fiber bodied supercar, powered by a special 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine. For this year, the 2022 Ford GT Heritage Edition takes things all the way back to 1964, inspired by the paint scheme on the 1964 Ford GT40 prototype, which went on to be America’s only Le Mans-winning race car.

The 2022 Ford GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition will be on display at the prestigious Monterey Car Week, alongside the 1964 Ford GT prototype, known as GT/105, featuring the original race livery. It’s the only remaining original 1964 Ford GT with the original livery, and one of the remaining three left in the world of the original five.

Both GT/103 and GT/104 have been repainted and are exclusive displays at the Shelby Museum in Boulder, Colorado. Chassis GT/101 and GT/102 were scrapped after Le Mans and Monza crash testing.

The primary color of the 2022 Ford GT ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition is Wimbledon White – the same color as the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Heritage Edition. And if you look close enough, you’ll realize that the dark contrasting isn’t black, but Antimatter Blue. The same color scheme, and heaps of exposed carbon fiber, weaves into the cabin of this Canadian-built supercar.

“There are a lot of milestone moments in the history of Ford GT that we’ve celebrated, but the team was unanimous in believing the original prototype was the right vehicle this time around,” Severson said. “That 1964 prototype unleashed the creative genius of the Ford Advanced Vehicles team and paved the way for the Ford GT program. It put all of this in motion.”

For approved customers, the 2022 Ford GT Heritage Edition is available to order. Production is scheduled to begin in January.
