The United States reported a million new COVID-19 vaccinations on Friday, marking the biggest one-day number of inoculations since July.
According to Cyrus Shapar, the White House’s COVID-19 data director, around 918,000 vaccinations were administered on Friday.
In mid-July, the U.S.’ average number of shots per day was about 500,000 – that number has now jumped to 700,000, according to the CDC.
However, the U.S. is still lagging behind its April vaccination rate, which averaged about three million shots a day.
White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain tweeted about the recent vaccination surge: “Strongest 24 hours of vaccinations since before July 4th. Vaccine requirements and incentives are starting to pay off – as well as the tragedy of seeing so much needless illness and loss due to Delta’s impact on the unvaccinated.”
