CDL Championship 2021 Preview

The most awaited event of the Call of Duty League season is finally here, with eight esports teams taking each other on for the $2.5 million CDL Championship 2021 prize pool.

After last year’s online format, LAN is finally coming back to Los Angeles. The seeding, based on the regular-season standings, created three different outcomes. The top two seeds directly start in Round 2 while the two last begin in the Loser Bracket. The remaining four teams go through the usual first round. The whole tournament will be streamed on the official Call of Duty League YouTube channel.

Atlanta FaZe and Toronto Ultra

Atlanta FaZe clearly demonstrated their status as this competition’s favorite. Out of their 41 matches, they fell only seven times, gathering over 525 CDL points. They are the ones that lost the least amount of maps, with only 53 maps lost. Most teams are currently seeing Atlanta as the team to beat in order to win the Call of Duty League Championship 2021.

To reach second place in the standings, Toronto Ultra participated in the highest amount of matches (46). 29 match wins got them 415 points, placing them 15 points above third-place Dallas Empire. The Texas-based Empire, winner of the CDL Championship 2020, performed well despite not getting near their last record-breaking season.

But the fourth, fifth, and sixth seeds are still not to be taken lightly. OpTic Chicago managed to hold their own with strong performances throughout the season. With the Minnesota Rokkr, they are considered dark horses of the tournament. New York Subliners got fifth place and enters the tournament with the big news that James “Clayster” Eubanks is back and ready to play.

The LA Thieves and Florida Mutinners managed to grab their CDL Champs slots but will have to avoid multiple elimination games in the Loser’s Bracket. After all, only the Winner’s Bracket gets double-elimination games. Normal series are best of five, with only one Control map while the Grand Finals features a best of nine match.

Winning the CDL Championship 2021 grants a team $1.2 million, with second and third place respectively winning $650 thousand and $300 thousand. Most of the games take place between August 19 and 20, with the first match being ROKKR versus Empire. This is an exciting time to be an esports fan as the Call of Duty League Championship 2021 will be tough, promising suspenseful matches.
