CORVETTE RACING DRIVER JORDAN TAYLOR IS DOIN' IT FOR DALE AT 2021 24 HOURS OF LE MANS

Even if you don’t know racing, you know the name. Dale Earnhardt Sr. is one of the most prolific American drivers to have ever take to the track. And if you’ve ever done something high octane, there’s a good chance you were “Doin’ it for Dale.” Fast forward over 20 years, since Dale Sr. was taken from us at Daytona, and Corvette Racing driver Jordan Taylor will be sporting a tribute helmet inspired by the Intimdator’s signature black helmet during the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans. The look is fully complete with red bowties and Goodwrench logos.

The replica comes courtesy of Mike Savage of Savage Designs, and it was Dale Earnhardt Jr. himself who gave Jordan Taylor his blessing to us the iconic look of the jet black helmet. In an interview with NBC, Taylor said that Dale Jr. asked to be part of the design team in order to make the helmet a true to life replica for the Corvette Racing driver..

In addition to the helmets logos and colors, Jordan Taylor added a few designs from his own personal helmet. Mainly, the stars that cover the crown of the helmet and the J that wraps itself around the helmet, a feature Taylor and the other members of his racing family share with their respective helmets and first initials.

Due to current racing safety standards, the replica couldn’t be open faced like the original. But that deep tinted visor and blackened appearance would definitely make The Intimidator proud.

Taylor is set to race in the 2021 running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans taking place this weekend, August 21-22, for Corvette Racing in the No. 3 C8.R. Fitting for the tribute, and even more fitting as Dale Earnhardt Sr. was said to have planned to race Le Mans the year of his death.

Dale Sr. and Jr. raced together during the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona for Corvette Racing in the No.3 C5 where they finished 2nd in their class and 4th overall. 2021 marks Taylor’s return to LeMans since 2017 and with the spirit of No. 3, let’s hope he brings home the checkered flag, and does Dale proud.
