The first season finale of The Morning Show was gripping, to say the least. Fans have been waiting to see how the drama would unfold after Jennifer Aniston's Alex Levy and Reese Witherspoon’s Bradley Jackson called out their network for being complicit in the misdealings of former anchor Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) — who had been accused of sexual misconduct — live on the air.
Now we know.
On Monday, August 23, Apple TV+ dropped the first full-length trailer for the series’ next installment. The trailer kicks off with Billy Crudup’s Cory Ellison pleading with Alex to return to The Morning Show after she seemingly steps down.
"You are the only thing that can save us,” the UBA exec tells Alex, as he laughs nervously. "I don't think I've ever said that before."
It seems Alex eventually agrees to return, which doesn’t exactly go over well with Bradley, who declares, “I’m not going to get edged out.” (However, the rest of the crew seems delighted by the longtime anchor's return, applauding Alex as she walks back into the studio.)
Bradley admits in another scene, “I feel like they’re bringing in my big sister to clean up my mess.” (It’s likely this particular line won’t go above the heads of loyal Friends fans, as Witherspoon portrayed the younger sibling of Aniston’s Rachel Green in the sitcom.)
Meanwhile, tensions continue to rise behind the scenes, too. At one point during the trailer, an unidentified voice declares to Alex, "You couldn't have planned this any better, stepping away when you did". The scene cuts to Alex telling her agent — played by new cast member Will Arnett — "I was broken, Doug."
Elsewhere, it's declared that ratings have gone down — and a bombshell exposé threatens to shake things up at UBA even further. The trailer also alludes to race becoming a problem on set of The Morning Show, with one staff member saying, “There is a pattern of behavior around here that disadvantages the people of color.”
Julianna Magulies also joins the cast as UBA news anchor Laura Peterson, who works to befriend Bradley, drawing the ire of Alex.
The second season of The Morning Show premieres Friday, September 17, on Apple TV+
