This electric yacht can cruise at a speed of 30 knots

Speed and on-board technology are the keywords for Swedish electric boat manufacturer Candela's newest model, as it features several streamlined hydrofoils that allow it to reach 30 knots. The first deliveries are expected in the spring of 2022.

Installed under the hull, these "foils," which are like submerged wings, allow it to float or seem to 'fly' slightly above the water and thus reach a maximum speed of 30 knots, or more than 50 km/h. Note that it is starting at 16 knots that the foils take effect and therefore that the boat gathers speed by "planing" a little bit. In a hydrofoil boat, the driving is also smoother and therefore offers a more enjoyable ride. This technology also offers a particularly comfortable elevated driving position.

The 8.5 meter-long yacht offers speed technology for creating a fast boat in a comfortable, upscale design. The cabin alone can accommodate two adults and two children for a well-deserved rest. In total, up to eight people can be on board. In terms of range, Candela estimates that its C-8 will be able to travel up to 50 nautical miles (or a little over 90 km) on a single charge, at a cruising speed of 22 knots.

On a daily basis, this type of boat is much less expensive to maintain than an equivalent model powered by a combustion engine. According to the manufacturer, this new model is able to easily sail for up to 3000 hours without any maintenance.

Unlike with its predecessor, the Candela C-7, which the company compared to a hand-built sports car, with the C-8, the goal is to produce this model on a large scale. Its price should not exceed 300,000 euros HT, which makes it an economic alternative in the medium term compared to equivalent vessels equipped with fossil fuel engines.
