The undefeated Huskers are set to meet unblemished Creighton Wednesday.
No. 4 Nebraska (5-0) has plenty to figure out, but undefeated through two weekends is much better than the opposite.
“We’re finally starting to get in a little bit of a rhythm,” coach John Cook said.
The Huskers got three more wins at home during the Ameritas Players Challenge, beating Omaha in five sets, Georgia in four sets, and sweeping Arizona State.
“Great to win the tournament,” Cook said. “We played better as the tournament went on. Now we’re gonna have to start refining a little bit of the lineup.”
Cook was happy to get a number of players in, including the return of captain and setter Nicklin Hames. After missing the first weekend with an ankle injury, Hames returned to the lineup to lead the team in assists with 39, 38, and 38 through the weekend.
Also making her first appearance of the season at the Ameritas was freshman Ally Batenhorst. Use mostly as a serving specialist in Friday’s matches, Batenhorst got the start Saturday against ASU and ended with nine kills on .333 hitting.
A big match awaits Nebraska in their first road test of the season. Unranked, but soon-to-be-ranked, Creighton is 6-0 on the season. Among the wins is a sweep of No. 3 Kentucky Saturday.
The Bluejays have dropped just two sets, both to Southern California in a five-set victory Friday.
“Creighton will bring out the best in us,” Cook said. “This is gonna be an exciting match. I think our players are gonna be really fired up.”
Nebraska and Creighton are set for first-serve Wednesday on both the Husker Radio Network and televised on FS1.
