Phil Collins Revealed He 'Can Barely Hold A Drumstick' During BBC Breakfast Leaving Fans Worried About His Health

Phil Collins appeared on BBC breakfast on Thursday, September 9, where fans were left worried about the drumming sensation’s declining health.

The 70-year-old musician, who has suffered a series of health complications in recent years, revealed he can no longer play the drums.

His son Nic will play the drums with his father’s former Genesis bandmates for their upcoming tour this fall — though Phil wishes they could share the experience together.

“'I'm kind of physically challenged a bit, which is very frustrating because I'd love to be playing up there with my son,” he said in the interview.

When asked about his own drumming ability, he sadly explained that playing his favorite instrument is no longer in the cards for him.

“No, [I can't still play the drums] I would love to, but you know, I mean I can barely hold a stick with this hand, so there are certain physical things that get in the way,” he said.

“We’re all men of our age, and I think to some extent, I think it probably is putting it to bed,” he explained of the band’s reunion tour. “I think just generally for me, I don’t know if I want to go out on the road any more.”

Fans were left concerned over the 80s star’s frail appearance. One userwrote on Twitter, “Gosh Phil Collins isn’t looking too good (sorry), bless him, I hope they aren’t just using him for another tour. Not sure if it’s a good idea. Please take care Phil. Sending my love to you.”

Another wrote, “Just saw Genesis on the news. Phil Collins looks and sounds really unwell.”

While playing on tour in 2007, Phil dislocated vertebrae in his upper neck, causing him to undergo a series of spinal surgeries. The severe nerve damage that followed would later interrupt his ability to drum.

He also was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis, which he announced in 2016, revealing in a press conference that he was “very close to dying.”

He also struggled with depression, and even confessed that he previously contemplated suicide, but that the thought of his children stopped him from going through with it, per The Daily Mail.

He recently attended his daughter Lily’s wedding, as she married Charlie McDowell over the weekend.

Lily is a well-known Hollywood actress, known for her roles in Mirror, Mirror, The Blind Side, To The Bone, and most recently, Emily in Paris.
