Jim Breuer cancels shows, including one in Montclair, over venues' vaccination policies

Jim Breuer has cancelled shows over venues’ vaccination requirements.

Comedian Jim Breuer posted a video (see below) to social media today, explaining his decision to cancel shows — including one at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, Dec. 3 — over their policies allowing only those who have been vaccinated or recently tested negative for COVID-19 to attend.

“The Wellmont Theater, New Jersey … (makes raspberry noise) … not doin’ it,” said the former “Saturday Night Live” cast member and longtime Chester resident. “Also the Royal Oak Theatre in Michigan. Due to the segregation of them forcing people to show up with vaccination and prove you’re vaccinated, to prove that you’ve had a shot, I am absolutely not doing those shows.

“I know I’m going to sacrifice a lot of money, but I’m not going to be enslaved by the system, or by money, and nor should anyone who wants to laugh or be entertained.”

Later in the video, he said: “I have to stick to my morals. I have to stick to what I know is right.”

He mentioned Morristown, though he doesn’t have any Morristown show on his current schedule (he has performed at the Mayo Performing Arts Center the past). “Morristown, my home. The fact that now, you segregate people. … You can call it whatever you want to call it. You’re segregating.”

He said he will perform in backyards, if he has to. “I’d rather go bankrupt and make a stance, and not segregate.” He also said he foresees doing a lot of shows in Florida or other states where venues don’t require vaccinations.

He also said, “God told me to serve you and make you laugh, at a young age, and I’ve been doing my best … and I’ll be damned if I’m going to force people to get a jab to come to see me.”

There was lots of other nonsensical ranting in the 22-minute video, including an assertion that a lot of doctors are just “licensed drug dealers,” but I’ll stop there. Here’s the complete video, if you want to watch.
