Alex Murdaugh has turned himself in.
The disgraced attorney who allegedly hired a hitman in a botched suicide plot so his surviving son could cash in on $10 million in life insurance monies has surrendered to the police.
Murdaugh — whose wife and son were brutally murdered in June — was spotted exiting a beige SUV at the Hampton County Law Enforcement Center late Thursday, September 16, morning, reported CNN. He is scheduled to appear in court later the same day.

The 53-year-old attorney faces charges of insurance fraud, conspiracy to commit insurance fraud and filing a false police report.
“I can assure you that SLED [South Carolina Law Enforcement Division] agents will continue working to bring justice to anyone involved with any criminal act associated with these ongoing investigations,” SLED Chief Mark Keel said. “The arrests in this case are only the first step in the process.”
As OK! previously reported, on Saturday, September 4 — a day after colleagues at his former law firm, Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth & Detrick confronted him over malfeasance, claiming he was embezzling money — he called 911 to say he had been shot while changing a tire. He survived the shooting with only superficial wounds.
After rising suspicion over the bizarre shooting, the former attorney — who had his law license in South Carolina suspended — admitted to police on Tuesday, September 14, that he hired hitman, Curtis Smith, to assist him in the brazen scheme.
He allegedly arranged the failed killing so his son could cash in on his $10 million life insurance policy.
Murdaugh’s surrender comes as authorities have launched a probe into the mysterious death of his former employee, according to WJCL. Gloria Satterfield was the family’s housekeeper for more than two decades before her death on February 26, 2018.
At the time, her death was described as a “trip and fall” accident inside the Murdaugh home. On Wednesday, Satterfield’s sons filed a wrongful death suit against Alex. SLED is opening a criminal investigation into the death of the former employee.
