The pickup truck wars are not for the faint of heart. Or even somewhere in the middle. So much is demanded from customers in this space (which may explain why American millionaires choose trucks over all other vehicle types), and the Ford F-150 has continued to represent the pinnacle of this space. Based on sales, at least. And thanks to the official 2022 Ford F-150 dealer order guide shared on the F150Gen14 forum, we can see the changes to the content for the new model year.

Beginning late in the model year and rolling into 2022, Ford has removed the 3.0L Power Stroke Diesel engine, which produced 250 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque with a towing capacity of 12,100 pounds. Customers can still get the two EcoBoost V6 options and the Coyote 5.0L V8 for their F-150 pickup trucks, as well as the powerful and efficient PowerBoost hybrid.
In addition, Ford has given customers the option to get their trucks in Atlas Blue. They also removed Guard, Kodiak Brown, and Lead Foot from the color options. Other than changes to the available packages for the F-150, nothing else has changed from the 2021 model. Here’s a look at the new or altered packages:
- New STX Black Appearance Package – optional on XL High
- New XLT Black appearance Package – optional on XLT mid and High
- New Lariat Black Appearance Package – optional on High
- New Platinum Black Appearance Package – optional on Platinum
- New Bed Utility Package – optional on XL, XLT, Lariat King Ranch, Platinum, and Tremor; included on King Ranch and Platinum; standard on Limited
We may also get to see the arrival of the highly anticipated Ford F-150 Raptor R for the 2022 model year, which could have 760 horsepower from a supercharged 5.2L Predator V8 engine found in the S550 Mustang Shelby GT500. This would more than ramp up the competition with the Ram TRX in the off-road performance truck space. At the same time, the start of production for the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning is coming sometime next year as well. We’ll share more information on both trucks as it becomes available.
