No. 12 Huskers Sweep Hawkeyes Saturday

Nebraska has never lost a match to Iowa.

No. 12 Nebraska (8-3, 2-0 Big Ten) earned their first sweep in more than two weeks Saturday, taking down Iowa (2-10, 0-2 Big Ten) in straight sets at the Devaney Sports Center.

The Huskers earned straight set victories over Arizona State and No. 19 Creighton before a three-game skid.

Nebraska got out early in set one with an 8-2 lead and dominated 25-17 on .265 hitting to Iowa's .029.

The second set saw the Hawkeye's hit .310 and have a 24-24 tie, but Madi Kubik and Nicklin Hames got back-to-back points to give Nebraska the 26-24 win.

Another close set had Iowa out front 5-2 to start, but Nebraska prevailed 25-21 for the sweep.

"We came out really sharp and then I thought we kinda let up a little bit and got a little sloppy," Nebraska coach John Cook said. "We could have done a better job of making some adjustments and not letting easy balls hit (the floor)."

Nebraska has never lost to Iowa in their 34 meetings, including a 21-0 record under Cook.

Kubik led the match with 15 kills to go with 14 digs and three blocks. Lindsey Krause hit .500 for the second-consecutive match on her way to 12 kills.

"I thought our outsides did a fantastic job tonight of managing out of system and in system and mixing up their shots," Cook said.

Hames dished out 40 assists, along with six digs and two aces.

For the match, Nebraska hit .267 to Iowa's .216.

Next up for the Huskers is another home match, this one against Michigan (7-3, 0-1 Big Ten). The Wolverines fell in five sets Friday at No. 9 Minnesota.
