A new police recording has shed light on details involving the domestic dispute incident between Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie one month before her disappearance.
The new audio obtained by Fox Newsreveals that cops on the scene of the dispute were aware that he had been allegedly “slapping” her — even though the deceased 22-year-old was still treated as the aggressor.
On August 12, the couple were pulled over in Utah after a 911 caller claimed to see Laundrie “slapping” his now-deceased fiancé. It was previously unclear whether or not the officers at the scene were informed of the details of the call.
When law enforcement officers arrived on location, they primarily investigated Petito’s actions, after she had allegedly left Laundrie with scratches on his face and arm. The couple was separated for the night after officers decided not to cite the influencer.
However, the resurfaced audio from the day of the incident showed that the dispatcher did give officers the details of the call that described Laundrie as the aggressor.
“RP (reporting party) states seeing a male hit a female, domestic,” the dispatcher said in the clip. “He got into a white Ford Transit van, has a black ladder on the back, Florida plate."
“...I’m not sure...but the female who got hit, they both, the male and the female, both got into the van and headed north,” the dispatcher added.
On September 23, the city of Moab released a statement claiming that the officers at the scene of the incident will be investigated for their handling of the dispute.
“At this time, the city of Moab is unaware of any breach of Police Department policy during this incident. However, the city will conduct a formal investigation and, based on the results, will take any next steps that may be appropriate”
“We understand that individuals can view the same situation in very different ways, and we recognize how the death of Gabby Petito more than two weeks later in Wyoming might lead to speculation, in hindsight, about the actions taken during the incident in Moab,” the statement continued.
Petito was confirmed to be deceased by the FBI on Tuesday, September 21, after the FBI confirmed that her death was being ruled a homicide.
Laundrie has been MIA since he was reported missing by his parents on Friday, September 17.
As OK! previously reported, the FBI gathered some of Laundrie’s personal items in search of DNA samples on Sunday, September 26.
On the same day that the Petito family held a funeral in honor of their late daughter, several FBI agents reportedly visited the Laundrie residence in North Port, Florida, where the missing 23-year-old’s parents have been holed up amid the ongoing search for their son.
It was revealed that the Laundries appeared to be compliant with the authorities’ request for items that might have DNA samples, despite the pair’s previous reluctance to help move the case along.
