2022 CHEVY SILVERADO ZR2 IS OFFICIALLY GOING RACING

When Chevrolet Performance first debuted the Hall Racing Silverado during the 2019 SEMA Show, we know it wasn’t just for kicks. MC&T has long been on the case of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 before GM wanted you to know, just as we’ve been with the future of the Camaro, the C8 Corvette, and Cadillac performance products. But today is a little different, as it marks the official debut of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 Hall Racing truck.

Hidden In Plain Sight

The prototype Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 race truck has competed in 10 professional-sanctioned off-road races since 2019. Including the Vegas to Reno Best In The Desert race last month. The truck didn’t have any issues during the race with only having to stop to refuel.

Motorsports serves as the ultimate test bed for trickling down technology to a production vehicle, and the Hall Racing Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 race truck is no different. Shared with the production ZR2 is the basically the entire chassis and powertrian. This includes the 6.2L L87 V8 engine that 420 horsepower, sending output to the wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission and two-speed transfer case. The front and rear differential, front skid plate, and transfer case skid plate are also shared components.

“It was exciting to help Chevrolet prove the Silverado ZR2’s off-road capability, hiding the prototype technologies in plain sight,” Hall stated. “The tests and refinements made over the past couple of years absolutely prove the adage that racing improves the breed – making the production Silverado ZR2 a strong, capable off-road truck.”

The 2022 Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 may not have the chunky 35-inch tires and long-travel suspension that the Ford F-150 Raptor has. And it doesn’t have a supercharged V8 that the Ram TRX has. But what it does have is a racing pedigree that is battle tested and results-proven. And to us, that means plenty.
