Jeep introduced the 2021 Grand Cherokee L earlier this year, adding an available 3-row option to the Grand Cherokee product line. And while you can acquire one of these fine examples at your local Jeep dealership, we never got to see what the regular, 2-row WL Grand Cherokee would be like; Jeep posted a teaser video on their Instagram page, which revealed the front end of the Grand Cherokee. But it’s not anything new since Jeep had previously teased photos of the Grand Cherokee 4xe variant earlier this year.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee WL: What To Expect
The two-row Grand Cherokee is looking to be as sleek as its larger companion; only the wheelbase is 6.9 inches shorter. The Grand Cherokee is expected to have the same powertrains as the Grand Cherokee L with an entry-level 3.6L Pentastar V6 that produces 290 horsepower and 257 lb-ft of torque. The 5.7L Hemi V8 will be reserved for the Overland and Summit models and is rated at 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. There are reports that the WL Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk won’t have a Hellcat 6.2-liter supercharged V8 which could be replaced by a new twin-turbo six-cylinder engine.

Jeep taking strides towards being the “greenest” SUV brand on the planet comes with the introduction of the 4xe plug-in hybrid, which we also expect to see at the debut. There’s not much known about the hybrid’s powertrain, but we speculate it may borrow its system from the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. Having a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors. In the wrangler, the system produces 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. There’s also a possibility that the Grand Cherokee lineup could use a new turbocharged inline-six-cylinder engine named the GME-T6 that could be paired with a plug-in hybrid electric system.
Altogether we’ll find out just what Jeep has planned for the 2022 Grand Cherokee on September 29th at 9 A.M. ET.
