Gabby Petito Case Could Get Complicated In Court As The Location Of Her Death Remains Unknown

The Gabby Petito case could get messy because of the blurred lines of where exactly her death actually occurred.

As OK! previously reported, the 22-year-old’s body was recovered weeks ago at the Spread Creek campground near Bridger-Teton National Forest and Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.

The area is considered to be federal land, which would cause her case to be handled by the feds, and the FBI is already spearheading the investigation so far.

However, it hasn’t yet been determined whether or not the YouTuber was actually killed in the area where she was found, or if her body was just brought there.

According to TMZ sources, if there is no way to determine where Petito was murdered, the location where she was found would be the default option. In this case, since she was found on federal property, the killer could face federal prosecution.

However, if state authorities find reason to believe that her body was moved there, things could get complicated over whether or not the state or the feds will handle the prosecution.

As OK! previously reported, Petito’s fiancé Brian Laundrie is currently the only person of interest that authorities have identified in the case, although he has been missing for weeks.

On Monday, October 4, the fugitive’s sister Cassie Laundrie broke her silence on her brother’s disappearance, and she revealed that she “didn’t know” whether or not her parents had something to do with his escape.

“We are just as upset, frustrated and heartbroken as everybody else,” she said. “I am losing my parents and my brother and my children’s aunt and my future sister-in-law on top of this.”

She also revealed she knew nothing about her brother’s whereabouts, and that her parents have cut off all communication with her, per instructions from their lawyer.

When asked directly if she believed her brother was responsible for Petito’s death, she answered: “I don’t know.”

On Tuesday, October 5, Petito’s parents appeared on a special with Dr. Phil, where they revealed that they knew their daughter was likely deceased after she went missing.

"I wasn't naïve to the fact. We were just hoping,” Petito’s father Joe Petito said during the sit-down interview.

“It didn’t hit me right away for a few seconds,” Nicole Schmidt, Petito’s mother added. “But I knew she was gone. As a mom, I knew she was gone.”
