Colorado State Sen. Kerry Donovan (D-Colorado), who’s running against Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colorado) next year, has ceased fundraising in the state’s 3rd Congressional District after the state’s redistricting commission approved a map that puts Donovan’s residence in another district, a move that would significantly favor the Republican.

The commission had submitted the map to the state Supreme Court last Friday, less than a year before the midterm election.

“I won’t talk about the motives of the commission; I can only look at the results. And the results show that we made the 3rd [Congressional District] less competitive, and I don’t think that’s what voters were expecting when they supported this idea of a commission,” Donovan said in an interview. “And a less competitive seat means that they can’t hold their elected official accountable. If this map stands, I think it’s a sad day for western and southern Colorado.”

Donovan has also released a lengthy statement explaining how the new map by the state’s redistricting commission could undermine the integrity of the election and her constituents’ rights in choosing the right candidate.

“I could not be prouder of the grassroots movement that we have built together. And as the leader of this movement, I am going to be honest with you about the path ahead,” Donovan tweeted.
