Gabby Petito's Family Visits Makeshift Florida Memorial Amid Brian Laundrie Manhunt

The family of Gabby Petitocontinues to remember, and honor, the late influencer.

On Sunday, October 10, the YouTuber’s family paid a visit to a memorial in North Port, Florida for the first time.

The makeshift memorial, located at North Port City Hall, features letters, flowers, stuffed animals and more items in honor of the 22-year-old who was found dead in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming last month.

Petito’s parents were able to take some of the items home from the memorial, which city staffers will be taking down on Tuesday, October 12.

According to News Nation Now, city officials are reportedly working to make a permanent memorial in Petito’s name, since the Florida weather was interfering with the makeshift setup.

Petito’s mother, Nicole Schmidt, posted a picture of heart-shaped clouds to her Twitter account on Sunday, writing “Goodbye Florida...thank you for showing us so much LOVE!”

She finished off the post with the hashtags, “#justiceforgabby,” “#justiceforgabbypetito” and “americasdaughter.”

Petito’s parents continue to grieve the loss of their daughter, who went missing after she never returned home from a cross-country trip with her fiancé Brian Laundrie last month.

Authorities are still trying to track down the 23-year-old, who is currently the only person of interest in Petito’s death. Laundrie has been missing since mid-September, and law enforcement has yet to gather substantial information on his whereabouts.

During a Dr. Philspecial which aired last week, Joe Petito candidly expressed that he wants to see Laundrie face the consequences for his alleged actions.

“I want to see him in a jail cell for the rest of his life,” the mourning father said during the interview.

Laundrie’s parents — Chris and Roberta — have reportedly been giving minimal cooperation with law enforcement officials trying to locate their son.

OK! reported that the North Port police officer Josh Taylor doesn’t know what to believe anymore regarding the Laundrie family’s statements to authorities.

“It’s certainly possible that they’re expressing what they know. But we’ll see," Officer Taylor said. "This is an ongoing investigation that will continue to evolve.”

“I mean your son walks on there, now they’re saying on a Monday, to report that on Friday, and then be confused about what day that was...there’s a lot of things that are odd there,” he continued.

“I think you saw yesterday the family was out there helping in the search. I think it’s a sign of them trying to work with investigators,” the officer added, referring to Chris' involvement in the search for his son in the Carlton Reserve in Florida.
