It Can’t Happen Here?

There’s a growing concern that the Republicans will regain control of both houses of Congress in the next election – less than thirteen months from now. That victory would place them in a good position to retake the presidency in 2024, very possibly returning former president Donald Trump to the White House.

The Profound Ignorance And Stupidity Of The American People

These two eventualities are a great testimony to the profound ignorance and stupidity of nearly half of the American people. I mean, how else can you describe individuals who deny reality and readily accept “alternate facts” as truth?

Just as the Germans believed Hitler’s “Big Lie,” close to half of our own citizens believe that Trump actually won the last presidential election. While Trump may not aspire to become another Hitler, he may well destroy our democratic system of government should he regain office.

Still, we can’t blame Trump for trying to destroy our democracy all by himself. Our morons and ignoramuses have elected corrupt legislatures in what may be termed “the shithole states.” These states have passed laws that not only restrict voting rights, but allow the state legislatures to override the results of a presidential election in their states.

Maybe Trump Will End Up In Prison

But maybe we’ll luck out. Maybe the Democrats will retain control of Congress in the 2022 election and Trump will end up in prison before the 2024 presidential election.

But that still leaves us with an electorate, half of which holds beliefs closer to those held in Hitler’s Germany than in true democracies. So even if we were to dodge the political bullet in 2022 and 2024, what will happen further down the road?

Is it my own warped imagination that makes me hear “Sieg Heil! Sieg Heil! (German for Hail Victory!) when I’m actually hearing “USA! USA!” at the Trump rallies?

Am I exaggerating the dangers posed by Trump and his legions of ardent followers? Will we even have a democratic form of government three or four years from now? I wouldn’t bet on it.
