2022 CHEVROLET TAHOE Z71 OVERLANDING CONCEPT TAKES ON ZR2 CUES

After more than 20 years on the market, there’s finally a Chevrolet Tahoe worthy of the beautiful backcountry it takes its name from. The 2022 Chevy Tahoe Z71 Overlanding Concept arrives on the scene at the 2021 SEMA show in Las Vegas equipped with everything needed to bug out for a weekend in the Sierra Nevada wilderness.

Based on the existing 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71, the new Overlanding Concept comes equipped with GM’s Air Ride Adaptive Suspension, which floats along atop 33-inch BF Goodrich KM3 donuts wrapped around black concept 18-inch beadlock wheels.

Do we smell some ZR2 aromas? We think we do.

The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe Z71 Overland Concept retains the base vehicle’s existing red tow hooks and (plastic) front skid plate, along with an Off-Road Recovery Kit, Air Design black-painted fender flares, and black tubular side steps. But getting to the campsite is only just the beginning of the weekend’s adventure.

If you’re going to camp, then you’re going to want a place to sleep. This is where the High-Country 80-inch premium tent by Freespirit Recreation will come in handy. The roof-mounted tent is large enough to sleep three to five people and is high enough up off the ground you won’t have to worry about critters or catching a chill.

In terms of mechanical changes to the 2022 Chevy Tahoe Z71 Overlanding Concept, there isn’t much to talk about. It retains GM’s 5.3L L84 V8 engine, which kicks out 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, But the engine now exhales through an upgraded cat-back exhaust with Black chrome tips by Borla. The L84 also works in conjunction with GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission and is four-wheel-drive enabled thanks to an Autotrac two-speed transfer case.

Truthfully, it wouldn’t be all that hard to kit out your own 2022 Chevy Tahoe Z71 in a similar fashion to the Overlanding Concept. The High-Country tent is available through the Chevrolet Accessory Catalog, as are the Borla tips, and other aesthetic appliques seen on the show truck. The only item not officially available are the body-color-matched beadlock wheels.

Stay tuned all this week as we continue to bring you the best and brightest from the 2021 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
