Sun Shines, Hames Breaks Record as Nebraska Sweeps Illinois

The fourth straight sweep of Illinois snapped a two game losing streak for No. 9 Nebraska.

Senior All-American has been in a battle for a starting position this season. On Thursday, she took advantage of her opportunity when given the nod for the first time since Sept. 18.

Sun put in one of her best performances of the season, hitting .303 and tying for the team lead with 11 kills as No. 9 Nebraska (17-5, 11-2 Big Ten) swept No. 25 Illinois (16-8, 8-5 Big Ten) on the road.

The Huskers held on for the set one win 25-20, but needed come backs to take sets two and three 25-20 and 25-21. In the third set, Nebraska used a 6-0 run when trailing 19-15 to take the final momentum from the Illini.

Madi Kubik joined Sun with 11 kills on the night.

Nicklin Hames tossed in her 15th double-double of the season, with 35 assists and 10 digs. Her first assist of the night pushed her into sole possession of first place for Nebraska history in career assists in the rally-scoring era.

The Huskers outhit the Illini on the night .206 to .182.

Nebraska stays on the road Saturday at No. 7 Ohio State.
