Authorities are looking at shutting down all the brick kilns in the 8-kilometre vicinity of Srinagar airport.

In a meeting convened by

Divisional Commissioner Kashmir recently, the directions for the same were passed.

The meeting was convened to review flight operations at the airport.

It was also stressed that “all arriving passengers are registered” for COVID-19 disease and properly detected and tracked.

The traffic at the airport has increased to more than 170% of

pre-covid levels.

The meeting further decided that ADGP police will provide adequate manpower and a barrier will “be placed to” avoid “the possibility of mixing of international and domestic passengers at airport.

Deputy Commissioner Budgam has been directed to ensure proper background checks before

deployment of staff at the Airport to cater to the rush of traffic.

“With regard to the issue like, alternative way for Srinagar Airport and closure of illegal brick kilns especially those operating within 8 Kms radius of Srinagar airport a meeting shall be conducted by Deputy Commissioner, Budgam.”
