Many owners or future owners of the Ford Bronco have been curious about performance mods and what they can do to make their broncos more capable with added horsepower and torque. But most tuners in the industry don’t have the tools needed to be able to allow for Bronco tuning. However, Whipple is a company that has good connections with Ford and has managed to enable the ability to tune new Broncos with the new Tomahawk Flash Device.
Ford Bronco Whipple Tomahawk Flash Device: Details
While the Tomahawk flash device has been made available for other Ford products like the Mustang and F-150, Whipple has now put together a small package that helps increase the performance of the Ford Bronco while remaining 50 state legal. First up is the high flow air filter, which is a direct replacement for both 2.3L four-cylinder turbo and 2.7L V6 turbo Broncos. Then, there’s the Tomahawk Flash Device itself, which plugs into the OBDII port. Once plugged in, users can pull the factory file using the prompts on the screen before sending the information to Whipple. They then build a calibration for that specific Ford Bronco, which is emailed back to the user to load it back into the Tomahawk device, and after, flash in the calibration code. The device can also data-log, read and clear DTC trouble codes and calibrate for different tire sizes and axle ratios to ensure users can get the most out of their rigs.

It’s still unclear how significant the tuning changes are at the moment since Lethal Performance on the Bronco6g forum has only just received the device and sent in the factory file. Still, they plan to put their Ford Bronco on a dyno to compare the stock calibration to the Whipple and see what the differences truly are. The tuner will also improve throttle response and shifting.
So, for those waiting for the ability to tune the Ford Bronco, the time has finally arrived, and we’ll soon know just how much of an improvement it makes on the vehicle’s performance. What’s unclear at the moment, however, is how flexible the Whipple Tomahawk Flash Device really is. Seeing as it keeps things within the legal framework of what the CARB states want, we don’t think things are going to get too far away from stock calibrations, but this is certainly a start.
