Staff Report

Srinagar,

Prohibitory orders on assembly of people were clamped in Ramban area of Jammu even as families of slain men continued with the protests for the return of their bodies in Kashmir.

Authorities in Ramban imposed restrictions under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code in Famrote, Sangaldan and Seripora areas of Gool sub-division to prevent the assembly of people. As per the order this was done to “maintain law and order and public tranquility”. A local youth has died who the police claimed was a militant which was however rejected by the family.

Meanwhile the family members of two slain men in Srinagar continued with protests for return of bodies.

One of the protesting family members also asked former chief ministers, Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, “to move beyond tweets and join the family in protest.”

The family members of building owner Altaf Ahmed, who was killed in Hyderpora encounter Wednesday staged a protest at press enclave Srinagar demanding the body.

“If police doesn’t give us his body back, we will block all roads and protest on streets,” Dr Haneef Ahmed, brother of Altaf told Kashmir News Observer.

Chairman of International Forum for Justice Human Rights JK, Muhammad Ahsan Untoo, said, the police story of the encounter was “doubtful” due to conflicting “versions of the families”.

Meawnhile Peoples’ Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti “protested against the central government over the ” killing of innocent people in the name of militancy” and demanded the return of bodies to their families.”

She lead the protest in Jammu and demanded a judicial inquiry into the Hyderpora encounter.
