Offense focused on making plays count against clock-hogging Badgers
The Huskers have "a lot of guys nursing some things" at running back, but coach Scott Frost is hopeful everyone will be good to go Saturday against Wisconsin.
"We're beat up a little bit at running back, they're beat up a little bit at running back," Frost said after Thursday's Nebraska football practice. "That's football this time of year, particularly in this league. So there could be some opportunities for guys, and we'll see how they respond to that."
After Sevion Morrison's departure from the team, Nebraska is down to three available scholarship running backs: Rahmir Johnson, Jaquez Yant and Markese Stepp.
Frost said he's "really, really happy with the level of interest" shown thus far in Nebraska's offensive coordinator position and the three other vacancies on the offensive staff. He's also pleased with the team's mind-set in the wake of the staff shakeup: "These guys are going to keep battling. They know how close they've been."
Given the interim staff structure, offensive game-planning has meant "a little more work for fewer people, but I like where we landed, and the guys have figured it out," Frost said. "Again, we're probably not going to get a lot of plays because of the style of football they play, so we just have to make the ones we run count."
