Princess Eugenie's father-in-law George Brooksbank has died at the age of 72 years old.
According to a new report from Daily Mail, Eugenie’s husband Jack Brooksbank lost his father just days before the pair christened their son August.
On Sunday, November 21, the new parents had their son baptized at the All Saints Chapel in Windsor Great Park. Brooksbank reportedly passed earlier in the week.
“George had been in [the] hospital with Covid last year and was not the same after that,” a source told the outlet. “He had been unwell for some time. It’s been a difficult time for Jack losing his father before the Christening.”
Another insider claimed it was a “miracle” that George lived as long as he did, after being on a ventilator for 5 weeks while battling COVID-19. The source also added that it was “wonderful” that Jack’s father was able to meet his grandson, who was born in February.
Although the royal pair were secretly mourning the death of Jack’s father, they didn’t let it show at the christening ceremony for their son. Eugenie’s parents Prince Andrewand Sarah Fergusonattended the event, per Daily Mail, but it is unclear if Jack’s mother Nicola was able to make it considering the circumstances.
Queen Elizabeth II is also believed to have been in attendance for the ceremony on Sunday, along with senior royals Prince Williamand Kate Middleton.

The Queen's presence at the event comes as she deals with her own health woes. Her Majestry was hospitalized for “preliminary investigations” back in October and cancelled several engagements in accordance with her doctor’s advice to “rest.”
As OK! previously reported, Prince Harryhas been worried about his grandmother, who he has been “in touch with nonstop, sending messages and care packages," although he still wishes he could be “by her side,” according to a source.
Last week, during his royal tour in Jordan alongside wife Camilla, Prince Charles addressed his mom’s health status, claiming that she has been doing “alright.”
“Once you get to 95, it’s not quite as easy as it used to be,” he said before joking, “It’s bad enough at 73.”
