As major players in the auto industry begin to bring their all-electric trucks to market, the Tesla Cybertruck remains notably absent. This is probably because the original vehicle was saw in 2019 was not a production-intent model, despite cultists claiming otherwise. It’s probably too late for Tesla to start things over from a clean slate, but it’s not too late to add basic things like windshield wipers and mirrors to its design. CEO Elon Musk and company seem to also be working at raising the floor and the ceiling of the upcoming product, with the confirmation of a four-motor Tesla Cybertruck.

If the rest of the rumors are indeed true, that would mean that Tesla would then drop the single motor, entry version of the Cybertruck. It would have come in under $40,000, and it would have had around 250 miles of range with a 0-60 time of 6.5 seconds. But with the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Pro coming in at about the same price, with two motors, a target output of 426 horsepower and 230 miles of range, in a more sensible package that’s good for work and fleets, and beginning production in the spring, Elon Musk and company may have re-evaluated their entry level position.
As for the four-motor Cybertruck, Tesla had likely taken notice of the 1000 horsepower GMC Hummer EV Edition 1. Originally, the top-end version of Tesla’s idea of an electric truck came in at 814 horsepower and 1,033 pound-feet of torque. Already plenty strong on the spec sheet, but compared to the Hummer EV – which is being built right now – it falls short on power. Tesla also seemed to take a liking to the new Hummer’s Crabwalk feature, and the updated Cybertruck is confirmed to offer the same party trick, per another Elon tweet below:

Musk reiterated that an updated roadmap on the Cybertruck will come next month, during the company’s Q4 2021 earnings call. While the mass of Cybertruck reservation holders continue to wait, Tesla would like them to spend more money on a glorified Power Wheels toy, and a whistle. Nevermind, they’re out of stock.
