Eric Crouch Reflects on Hall of Fame Induction

‘It was all team-related,’ Nebraska’s Heisman-winning quarterback says on eve of ceremony

The interview below, provided by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame, was conducted Dec. 6, 2021. Eric Crouch, winner of the 2001 Heisman Trophy, is part of the 2020 Hall of Fame class, which is being inducted Dec. 7 in Las Vegas along with the 2021 class.

A first-team All-American as a senior, Crouch won the 2001 Heisman Trophy, Walter Camp Player of the Year award and the Davey O'Brien Award. He guided Nebraska to an 11-2 record and a spot in the BCS National Championship Game.

As a junior, Crouch led Nebraska to a 10-2 record and a share of the Big 12 North title a in 2000. In 1999, he was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year in the Big 12 as a sophomore when he led the Huskers to a 12-1 record, a conference championship and a No. 3 final national ranking.

Crouch held 32 school records when he ended his Husker career. He rushed for more than 100 yards 17 times, an NCAA record for a quarterback at the time. He was the third quarterback in NCAA history to amass 3,000 rushing yards and 4,000 passing yards in a career.
