2 policemen killed, 12 wounded in Srinagar militant attack

Two policemen were killed and tweleve others wounded as militants attacked a police party in Pathachukh area of Srinagar this evening.Militants fired upon the police personnel at Zewan Chowk in the area. This came barely hours after police claimed to have killed two militants in Rangreth area of Srinagar. There were reports of local youth protesting the killing and resorting to stone pelting in the area after the incident.Security has been intensified in Srinagar after uptick in militant activities. As per reports militants opened fire at a vehicle carrying policeman in Zewan area of Srinagar resulting in their injuries.The militants fired at the vehicle of 9th battalion Indian Reserve Police (IRP) at Zewan area.
The injured policemen were referred to hospital for treatment and the area has been cordoned off.Police in a tweet said militants fired upon a police vehicle near Zewan in Pantha Chowk area of Srinagar and 14 personnel were injured in the attack.” All the injured personnel evacuated to hospital. Area cordoned off,” police said.
