Arguably the biggest surprise at the 2021 SEMA Show was the tentatively titled Chevy Off-Road Concept, which originally debuted as the Chevy Beast Concept. This Halo Warthog-looking vehicle is actually based on a modified Chevrolet Silverado short-bed chassis, and features a tactical body that takes the idea of a side-by-side ATV, and cranks it up to eleven, and is then filled it with steroids and red meat, and pokes it a couple times with a stick to get it nice and pissed off.
For the bite to measure up to the bark, the Chevy Off-Road Concept features a 650 horsepower LT4 crate engine paired with a 10L90 10-speed automatic transmission, the same can be found in a Camaro ZL1, as well as the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing.
Chevrolet Performance went ahead and implemented a long-travel five-link concept suspension system for the Off-Road Concept as well, forgoing the existing suspension geometry of the Silverado 1500, and even the Silverado ZR2. There is also a 4130 Chromoly tubular safety structure integrated into the framework, for on the slight chance you take a tumble down a dune or hillside. 20-inch beadlock wheels are a prominent feature on the Chevy Off-Road concept vehicle, they are surrounded by 37-inch off-road tires and accompanied by an upgraded Chevrolet Performance braking system.
As you can imagine, there’s a bit of disclaimer that comes with this Chevy Off-Road Concept. As shown in the video, is not actually street legal, and there’s no word on whether or not GM is brave enough to put it into production. There are a few small adjustments that would have to be made in order to make it so however. Those adjustments include adding a proper windshield with working windshield wipers and a defroster as well as adding fender flares to cover the tires.
