FORD MUSTANG PLANT RAIDED BY THIEVES, MAKE OFF WITH SEVERAL S550 SHELBY GT500 MUSCLE CARS

The Ford Motor Company Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan saw an action film inspired heist last weekend, as thieves allegedly made off with four brand new examples of the range-topping, 760 horsepower S550 Shelby GT500. At around 10:50 pm last Sunday, the incident reportedly occurred with police investigators indicating that one of the cars was used to crash through a security gate when exiting the factory grounds. Unfortunately, surveillance footage hasn’t been released to shed light on the Hollywood-themed exit.

According to Downriver newspaper The News Herald, two of the fresh off-the-line vehicles didn’t make it too far, as one was recovered in Brownstown Township, just a ten-minute drive from the plant (probably a five minute drive in a stolen GT500 evading authorities). While the other turned up in Southgate, a little further down I-75. Both Ford Mustangs were found unoccupied, with one sporting heavy damage to the front end. Meanwhile, the remaining two Shelby GT500 Mustangs are still at large, with reports stating the vehicles are “Belladonna black,” which is a non-existent paint color for the GT500. “Shadow Black” is the only black paint code for the vehicle, but even so, there are no other descriptions or images of the cars to go off of.

And with a week gone by, it’s likely they’re gone for good.

Thin Security At Ford Mustang Plant

Apparently, security at the plant isn’t the greatest, with another heist almost identical to this happening back in 2017. Fox 2 Detroit reported that thieves made off with two S550 Ford Mustang muscle cars after entering the plant through a hole in the fence they had cut. Police have even admitted that they have investigated multiple similar thefts over the past years.

Stealing an S550 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is undoubtedly a popular choice for a quick getaway, having 760 horsepower from its supercharged Predator V8 engine, and a price tag that can eclipse $100,000 with the right options. However, even with all of that power under the hood, the car still can’t outrun police radio chatter.

Police are still looking for information. For those with some knowledge, contact the Flat Rock Police Department at 734-782-2406, ext. 0.
