Week 16 Waiver Wire Adds and Drops

Dominating the waiver wire could catapult you into championship territory regardless of how much you struggled during the draft or while making trades. Read on for eight waiver wire targets, as well as a few players who you can comfortably cut loose.

Adds

Let’s check out eight players that warrant consideration ahead of the upcoming waiver wire cycle. All players listed here are rostered in less than 35 percent of ESPN leagues and could have legitimate impacts for the fantasy playoffs.

Jimmy Garoppolo

Rostered in 20.7 percent of leagues

Garoppolo has been quite trustworthy in recent weeks, producing more than 19.3 fantasy points in six of his last eight games. The 49ers’ offense has completely hit its stride and, as playoff hopes linger, San Francisco will obviously look to remain competitive. All of this bodes well for Garoppolo over the final weeks of the regular season.

Ronald Jones

Rostered in 23.4 percent of leagues

The Buccaneers’ offense is suddenly very, very injured. Leonard Fournette and Chris Godwin are both done for the regular season while Mike Evans is week-to-week. Antonio Brown will return on Sunday, but it’s still obvious that Jones will have major involvement going forward. He should be a priority addition in all leagues this week.

Duke Johnson Jr.

Rostered in 0.6 percent of leagues

Johnson went berserk this week, totaling 127 scrimmage yards and two touchdowns. While he did have a very favorable matchup and trumped his teammates in preparation time for this week’s game (several backs, including Myles Gaskin, spent much of the week on the COVID-19 list), there’s still optimism that he can serve as a fine FLEX play going forward, especially if you’re in a bind and need to swing for the fences. The fact that Miami quickly signed him from the practice squad and to the roster on Monday morning bodes well for his usage going forward.

Justin Jackson

Rostered in 2.8 percent of leagues

There were whispers that Jackson could see an increase in touches due to Austin Ekeler‘s lingering ankle injury. This came true as the former led the backfield with 13 rushes and posted 99 scrimmage yards before all was said and done. It’s unclear how Los Angeles’ running backs will split time going forward, but there’s no doubt that fantasy managers who are rostering Ekeler should focus on adding his backup this week.

Amon-Ra St. Brown

Rostered in 24.4 percent of leagues

This man is available in more than 75 percent of leagues? That’s an absolute crime; there’s no other way to put it. The rookie has 37 touches, 256 scrimmage yards, and two touchdowns over the last three weeks, making him one of the most dominant and potentially-league-winning players in all of fantasy football. He’s a borderline WR1/WR2 for the final few weeks and should be rostered in all leagues. Add him and start him. Now.

Gabriel Davis

Rostered in 12.6 percent of leagues

Davis caught seven passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns this past week. The increase in usage came after Emmanuel Sanders was ruled out with a knee injury. Now, Cole Beasley has tested positive for COVID-19, too, and won’t be eligible for Week 16. As such, Davis could be the Bills’ No. 2 wide receiver against the Patriots. Fantasy managers should view him as a low-end WR2 this week. Translation: you’ve hit the jackpot if Davis is still available in your league.

Laquon Treadwell

Rostered in 0.7 percent of leagues

Most fantasy managers in the playoffs are looking for upside. However, if you want to balance out your lineup with a steady FLEX play, Treadwell is your guy. Similar to how consistent Jamal Agnew was prior to his injury, Treadwell has stepped in and caught 28 passes for 240 yards over the last four weeks (average of 10.5 fantasy points per week). He’s an interesting waiver wire target this week, especially if you’re in deeper leagues or on the bottom of the priority list and can’t feasibly add some of the other players listed here.

Cole Kmet

Rostered in 22.6 percent of leagues

This feels like a lay-up since it’s pretty obvious, but Kmet is a top choice for tight-end needy teams down the final stretch. He now has at least five targets in eight of his last nine games, and he’s produced double-digit fantasy finishes in three of his last six. He offers fantasy managers a solid floor predicated on volume over the final few weeks.

Drops

Let’s check out three players that you can comfortably cut loose from your roster. All players listed here are rostered in more than 50 percent of ESPN leagues and aren’t expected to have legitimate impacts down the stretch.

Jerry Jeudy

Rostered in 73.2 percent of leagues

At this point, you should drop anyone who hasn’t produced over the last few weeks. Is a breakout possible? Of course. But as a general rule of thumb, it’s very risky to start a player based on one good performance. So even if Jeudy breaks out in Week 16, you can’t feel comfortable deploying him in Week 17. As such, why even hold onto him at this point?

Courtland Sutton

Rostered in 71 percent of leagues

Everything said about Jeudy applies to his teammate, Sutton. There’s no point in holding on to any Denver wide receiver.
