GMC HUMMER EV EDITION 1 DELIVERIES ARE HAPPENING NOW

After a rapid development cycle, the 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 pickup truck has officially started shipping out to paying customers, starting with VIN 001 – a truck auctioned for charity at Barrett-Jackson last spring, fetching a haul of $2.5 million USD.

For now, GM is just building and delivering the sold-out GMC Hummer EV Edition 1, and it may be awhile before GM’s Factory ZERO reaches its full Hummer production pace; according to GMC Vice President Duncan Aldred, the condensed Hummer development time is expected to lead to “a slower production ramp up than you might see on a normal ICE vehicle.”

The GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 comes exclusively in Interstellar White paint job and a unique Lunar Horizon interior. It’s motivated by the full-fat version of GM’s Hummer EV powertrain, with three motors supplying an estimated 1,000 horsepower and as much as 11,500 lb-ft of wheel torque. Of course, that’s wheel torque, meaning it’s been measured after the torque output from the three electric motors has already been multiplied by the reduction gear, but it’s an impressive figure nonetheless. By common standards, the figure comes in at around 1,000 lb-ft of motor torque.

The 2022 Hummer EV Edition 1 also comes standard with 4 Wheel Steer featuring GM’s nifty-if-somewhat-perplexing CrabWalk feature, which allows the front and rear wheels to steer in the same direction at low speed for diagonal movement of the vehicle, as well as a trifecta of other clever tricks. There’s the Adaptive Air Suspension with Extract Mode, for instance, which allows the GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 to raise its ride height by a full six inches to clear boulders and ford rivers. There’s also a Watts to Freedom mode, which needs to be activated to unlock the full acceleration potential of the Hummer: 0-to-60-mph in just 3 seconds. And then there’s Super Cruise – GM’s advanced semi-autonomous, hands-free driving mode, enhanced with the recent addition of automatic lane changes. With the arrival of that feature, Super Cruise can now identify when a lane change might be warranted, and execute the maneuver by itself.

“We brought this truck to market with speed and agility and brought GM another step closer to an all-electric future,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “With our Ultium Platform as the foundation for a broad range of applications, the GMC Hummer EV offers our customers the ultimate in capability and performance.”
