The View has clarified where they are in their search to fill Meghan McCain's vacancy after reports surfaced that producers are struggling to find the perfect Republican replacement.
A representative for the ABC talk show claimed in a statement viaDecider that their search for a right wing co host has been going swimmingly despite rumors to the contrary.
“Our plans are on track as we continue to look for the right person to join our panel of smart, dynamic women,” the spokesperson explained. “We look forward to welcoming guest co-hosts for return appearances and introducing new names into the mix in the new year.”
As OK! previously reported, a source told Politico that current panelists Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin and Joy Behar are sick of the constant revolving door of guest hosts. The trio allegedly made it clear to producer Brian Teta that it's time to lock down a permanent GOP minded replacement.
According to the outlet, although republican pundit Ana Navarro frequently makes appearances on the show and seems ready to nab the spot, producers feel she’s “too friendly” and “not a traditional Republican."
The insider went on to reveal that the Emmy Award winning chat show has allegedly been “struggling” to find a conservative woman who “checks all the boxes.”
“They are really looking for a unicorn,” the source dished. “They want someone who is going to fight — but not too hard, because they don’t want it to be ugly and bickering.”
Conservative personalities likeCondoleezza Rice, Carly Fiorina, Gretchen Carlson, S.E Cupp, and Alyssa Farah have all had opportunities to vie with the four other democratic panelists. Yet none have made the significant impact producers are looking for.
The show — which will return with all new episodes on January 3, — was hoping to bring on young libertarianKat Timpf but she passed due to The View's reputation of mistreatment of conservative hosts as well as her contract with Fox News.
