CES 2022: Despite challenging conditions, some major new announcements are in store

After an entirely virtual edition in 2021, CES 2022 is set to be a hybrid event. While many startups will be present on site, most of the biggest and hotly anticipated brands will unveil their new products via online events. This year's Consumer Electronics Show runs January 5 to 7 in Las Vegas, ending one day earlier due to covid-19 restrictions.

The 2022 edition of CES is expected to see few in-person events and a host of online presentations. Originally, more than 2,200 exhibitors were expected to attend the show on site, but some of the biggest names in the business have already announced that they will not be attending in person. This is the case of Intel, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Lenovo and T-Mobile, but also BMW, Mercedes or Waymo on the automotive side. So, after an entirely virtual edition in 2021, this year's event will largely be followed through various online conferences and presentations. For those who opt to remain on site, strict measures will be taken to prevent the spread of covid-19, including mandatory masks and vaccination.

Whether on site or remote, all the exhibitors at CES 2022 will have something interesting to present. As usual, it's the TVs product sector that promises some of the most spectacular announcements. Samsung, LG and Panasonic all have events scheduled to showcase their latest technologies. The Chinese company Hisense will also present its new products, in what promises to be an important year for the company, as the manufacturer is one of the main sponsors of the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the end of 2022.

On the audio side, Harman is expected to present many new products, especially for its JBL brand, which recently celebrated its 75th anniversary. Meanwhile, Sony is expected to present new headphones.

The health sector will be strongly represented this year, with more than 100 startups on the bill. Covid-19 will obviously be on the agenda, with, for example, the demonstration of a first airborne detector of the virus, as well as various tools for simulating its spread.

Finally, the organizers have announced the presence of Cristiano Amon (Qualcomm), Jong-Hee Han (Samsung), Mary Barra (GM) and Pete Buttigieg, the US Secretary of Transportation.
