Vitality and MAD Lions are set to kick off the 2022 LEC Spring Split

The 2022 LEC Spring Split is only a few days away and it will be kicked off with a star-studded matchup between the defending champion MAD Lions and Vitality.

After a long and hectic offseason, Riot Games has finally presented the full schedule for the first LEC split of the year. The split will include game days with five games each for the regular split, with a few super weeks mixed in. The first week of games will in fact be a super week starting on January 14, where all teams will be playing for three days straight.

The opening matchup that many eyes will be on is between MAD Lions and Vitality. MAD Lions will be entering as the defending champion after a great 2021 season, but won’t necessarily be the biggest favorite to defend it. Vitality, on the other hand, seems like one of the absolute biggest favorites after adding a lot of strength to its roster over the last few months.

Vitality has built the definition of a championship roster, by returning the likes of mid laner Luka “Perkz” Perkovic and top laner Barney “Alphari” Morris to Europe after a season in the LCS. Vitality will also be fielding former MAD Lions bot laner Matyáš “Carzzy” Orság, who gets to make his debut on Vitality by facing his old team.

G2 Esports and Fnatic to show off new roster in first LEC week

The opening match won’t be the only banger to look forward to during the first LEC week, as the weekend will also bring a classic between G2 Esports and MAD Lions to end the week. G2 Esports is still one of the most popular organizations in the league, despite entering this year with big changes to its roster including a brand new bot lane.

Many eyes will also be on Fnatic, who has built a strong roster for the season by adding former G2 top laner Martin “Wunder” Hansen and former Misfits jungler Iván “Razork” Díaz to the roster. To top it off, Fnatic has bought itself a back-to-back LEC champion for the mid lane in Marek “Humanoid” Brázda.

For this first week, Fnatic will get the honor of taking on Team BDS in the organization’s very first LEC match. Fnatic will also face Vitality in what could turn out as the match of the week, closing it all out by taking on SK Gaming.

Plenty more exciting matchups will go down in the first week of the LEC and will continue over the entire regular split.
