Betty White's cause of death has been revealed.
According to the late actress' death certificate, per TMZ, White suffered a cerebrovascular accident six days before her tragic death.
A cerebrovascular accident, also known as a stroke, occurs when there is a loss of blood flow to part of the brain, resulting in brain tissue damage. This can also be caused by blood clots or broken blood vessels in the brain.
According to a source close to White, the actress was alert and coherent after the stroke, and she later died peacefully in her sleep at home.
As OK! previously reported, White passed away on December 31st at the age of 99, less than three weeks before she would have celebrated her 100th birthday, along with the documentary Betty White: 100 Years Young — A Birthday Celebration to mark the special milestone.
As OK! reported, the Hot In Clevland star's agent, Jeff Witjas,revealed after her passing that hitting her 100th birthday was very important to White: "She was always positive and she always saw the bright side. She promised me she would live to 100 — and she almost did."
"We kidded. I said, 'Betty, we know you're going to turn 100. Let's start focusing on 101.' I mean, that's really how we kidded around," he continued. "She never made it a big deal."
"And I would kid her. I said, 'Betty, you're outliving everybody. You're not going anywhere,'" her pal lovingly recalled, per the outlet. "Her work speaks for itself. Her legacy was sealed. It was sealed years ago."
According to Witjas, not even he knew about her medical standing prior to her passing: "She was under a doctor's care, not for any reason, other than just being careful with COVID."
Despite the world's loss, Witjas maintained: "I don't think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again." White and Ludden tied the knot in 1963 and were together up until the TV personality died from stomach cancer in 1981 at age 72.
