DETAILS ON THE NEW RIVIAN PLANT IN GEORGIA ARE TAKING SHAPE

45-minutes east of Atlanta Georgia, Rivian is planning on building an almost 2,000 acre assembly plant. This will be the 2nd for the company as a whole, and the site plans have been revealed. The new site will be used for research and development as well as manufacturing and represents a $5-billion investment.

Construction is set to begin summer of 2022 and the site plans share some exciting news. Some of the initial highlights are the inclusion of a delivery center, adventure and test tracks, as well as 144 total charging stations for assembled Rivian vehicles. The plant will bring about 7,500 jobs to the Walton and Morgan county communities. Per the Rivian press release, once the factory is at full production speed, it will be able to churn out 400,000 vehicles a year. Production at the “carbon conscious” plant isn’t expected until 2024 however.

The Rivian plant in Georgia will be responsible for building the next generation of products; they didn’t specify what vehicles would be coming off the assembly line, although the company has been trademarking specific name plates that we presume will be used for future vehicles. Rivian currently produces two vehicles, the Rivian R1T and the Rivian R1S. This news of establishing a new Rivian plant comes after the news of expansion at their first, and currently only, plant in Normal Illinois. That plant was recently given the green light for a 623,000 Square-foot expansion bringing its total size to an estimated 4 million square feet. By comparison, that is similar in size to Factory Zero in Detroit that GM built for its next-generation of electric vehicles. Namely, vehicles like the GMC Hummer EV, GMC Sierra EV, and Chevrolet Silverado EV. All of which will encroach on Rivian’s territory in some form or another.

It’s an exciting time for Rivian. The company has begun deliveries of its R1T and captured one of the biggest IPO’s in history last year. The addition of this new plant in Georgia should help with the partnership the company has with Amazon and Ford as well. With the expansion and second factory on the way, it’s safe to say they are hiring. New Normal and Georgia positions early last month and can be found here.
