Everyone knows that the Ford F-Series is the most sold truck in America, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado and Ram trucks. But if you’re wondering what states saw the most sales of these trucks, then Edmunds has you covered with their U.S. map that details vehicle popularity by state, along with price ranges for each truck.
Edmunds collected data throughout 2021 based on the top-selling vehicles by state. The data is based exclusively on retail registrations to individuals and doesn’t include rental sales or registrations from government bodies. In addition, only new vehicle registrations were included, so used cars sold through dealerships didn’t make it into the data on their list.

The Ford F-Series is still the most popular truck in America, with eighteen states seeing the most vehicles purchased being of the F-Series family. However, the Ford F-150, more specifically, has been the best-selling truck (and vehicle) in the United States for over 40 years, and it may continue to be with the introduction of the F-150 Lightning for 2022. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Silverado comes in behind the Ford F-Series, with eight states seeing the truck as their top sold vehicle for 2021. The Silverado was the first Chevy pickup to reach the market in 1918 and came without a bed, leaving buyers to install their own. Luckily today, they come with all the things people need in a full-size pickup, and the Silverado EV will take the truck into the future in 2024.
Lastly, the Ram is the third most popular pickup sold in the States. Although more states saw new Ram purchases than the Silverado, it still comes in third place; ten states saw the Ram as their most sold vehicle for 2021. Although the Ram pickup didn’t reach the market until 1981, in 2019 and 2020, it was awarded the Top Rated Truck, there are plans for the Ram to become an EV, but Stellantis is keeping their cards relatively close to their chest as they work on refinement.
