As the FBI officially closes the case on rising influencer Gabby Petito's shocking murder, some of the contents of Brian Laundrie's notebook have been revealed.
Law enforcement has confirmed on Friday, January 21, that the late 23-year-old's notebook found near his remains had "written statements by Mr. Laundrie claiming responsibility for Ms. Petito’s death."
"Gabby’s family would like to thank the FBI, specifically the Wyoming, Denver, New York and Tampa offices, all of their task force members and their assisting agencies," Rick Stafford, the Petito's and Schmidt's attorney, said in a statement. "Gabby’s family would like to thank the FBI’s Victim Services Department for all they have done for them. Victim Services has been there for support from the earliest stages of this investigation and helped their entire family navigate through the worst moments of their lives."
FBI Denver Division Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider noted that "all logical investigative steps" have been taken in the case implying that they are confident that there is no other suspect in Petito's murder.
"The investigation did not identify any other individuals other than Brian Laundrie directly involved in the tragic death of Gabby Petito. The FBI’s primary focus throughout the investigation was to bring justice to Gabby and her family," Schneider said in a statement.
The FBI confirmed that the social media star had died from "blunt-force injuries to the head and neck" in addition to the "manual strangulation/throttling" caused by Laundrie.
The bureau also confirmed that there was other evidence besides the notebook that implied that Laundrie was to blame for Petito's passing.
"After Ms. Petito's death, there were several text messages identified between Mr. Laundrie's telephone and Ms. Petitos telephone," the press release detailed. "The timing and content of these messages are indicative of Mr. Laundrie attempting to deceive law enforcement by giving the impression that Ms. Petito was still alive."
As OK! previously reported, Laundrie and Petito had set off on a cross country road trip this summer. On September 1, Laundrie returned home without Petito leading to her family filing a missing persons report. Her body was later found in a Wyoming national park where she and Brian had visited. After Laundrie went missing — his partial remains were found in a Florida reserve with a gunshot wound to the head.
