When we mention Blackpink and BTS, of course K-pop comes to mind! On Twitter, fans of K-pop dominate discussions. The global phenomenon generated 7.8 billion tweets in 2021.
K-pop is still in vogue on social networks, particularly on Twitter. While in 2020,K-pop music was the subject of 6.7 billion tweets, the record was broken last year. According to Twitter, 7.8 billion tweets about the genre were published on its platform worldwide, an increase of 16%.
Indonesia takes first place among the countries that tweeted the most about K-pop in 2021. The Philippines and South Korea come second and third in the ranking from Twitter. The United States is fifth while Japan takes tenth place. France finishes 18th of the top 20 countries that tweet the most about K-pop. Canada is in 20th.
Indonesia reinforces its position as being the site of top K-fandom by also dominating the top 20 countries with the most fans. The Japanese are back in the race in second place followed by the Filipinos. Americans come in fifth place while the French hold steady at 18th place.
The group BTS comes first among K-pop artists getting the most comments on Twitter. Their concert, "BTS Permission to Dance on Stage" alone generated more than 68 million tweets worldwide. South Korean K-pop boy bands NCT and Enhypen came second and third respectively.
Blackpink takes fifth place.
