Starlink's superfast internet via satellite comes at a cost

Satellite internet provider Starlink is launching a new Premium tier, which can reach 500 megabits per second. But to take advantage of it, you'll have to pay the price: US$2500 for installation fees and a monthly subscription of US$500! This is five times more expensive than the current basic offer.

Through this new offer, Starlink is promising a very high speed connection of between 150 and 500 megabits per second, as well as a relatively short latency time, in the order of 20 to 40 milliseconds, all without any data limit. The equipment supplied includes of course the satellite antenna, but also various cables as well as a Wi-Fi router.

This exorbitant price is justified by the promise of internet access of unprecedented quality in areas where broadband cannot be utilized, as well as in areas where the weather conditions are particularly difficult. However, this Premium offer is mainly aimed at professionals.

Under the leadership of its whimsical founder Elon Musk, Starlink has deployed more than 1,800 satellites in low orbit, at an altitude of about 550 km. Starlink's ultimate goal is to be able to cover the entire US territory first and then the rest of the world.
