This processor is designed for cryptocurrency mining

Intel has announced the upcoming launch of a new chip specifically dedicated to cryptocurrency mining, combining performance and power savings.

For the American microprocessor manufacturer, blockchain and the entire industry that stems from it represent a real revolution. In the age of the metaverse and Web 3.0, the demand for computing power has never been higher.

Among the activities that require the most computing power is the mining of cryptocurrencies. This also translates into a huge amount of energy expenditure. Now Intel wants to take action and promote the development of a secure, responsible and sustainable ecosystem. The idea is therefore to develop chips specifically dedicated to this activity. Companies that specialize in this field, such as Argo Blockchain or Griid Infrastructure, are among the firm's first customers.

Intel believes that its research will enable it to offer a product that offers even greater performance while consuming less energy than chips currently on the market. The company is betting on performance per watt that is more than 1,000 times higher than that of current consumer processors.

However, no availability details have been announced as yet.
